Sorted Property trade guides

Trade cost and how-to guides

These are plain-English guides to UK trade work, written for homeowners and landlords: boilers, central heating, heat pumps, rewires, fuse boards, EV chargers, gas safety certificates and emergency callouts. They explain what each job involves and what an honest quote should include, then match you to a vetted trade.

Frequently asked questions

Are these guides written for the UK?

Yes. Every guide is written for UK homeowners and uses UK regulations and schemes, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, Gas Safe registration and the wiring regulations. Figures are kept indicative because real prices vary, so the guides point you to getting a quote.

Do you quote exact prices?

No. Real prices vary too much by property, area and time of year to publish a single reliable figure, so we explain what drives the cost and what an honest quote should include, rather than print a number that would mislead. Government grant values, such as the 7,500 pound heat pump grant, are the exception because they are published.

Who writes these guides?

They are written and edited by Oliver Mackman for Sorted Property. We are an independent introducer, not an installer or a lender, so the guidance is about helping you choose well, not selling you a particular product.
